## What AnkiMobile Flashcards does

AnkiMobile is the official iPhone and iPad app for Anki, the spaced repetition flashcard program. It uses the same scheduling as the computer version and syncs cards through the free AnkiWeb service.

Anki is a flashcard program that schedules reviews for the moment you are about to forget something, so you spend more time on hard material and less on what you already know. The desktop version is free and open source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. AnkiMobile is the official iOS companion, and its sales fund development of both the computer and mobile versions.

AnkiMobile uses the same SM2 and FSRS scheduling algorithms as the computer version. You rate how well you remembered each card, and the app sets the next review. The study screen is flexible: you can map taps and swipes on different parts of the screen to actions and choose which tool buttons appear.

The free AnkiWeb sync service keeps cards and study progress the same across phones, tablets, and computers, so you can add content on a computer and review it on your iPhone. Sync is optional; you can also move data with a USB cable or AirDrop. Media such as images and audio is stored on the device, so you can study without an internet connection. The app handles decks of 100,000 cards or more, shows detailed graphs and statistics, supports MathJax and LaTeX, has a powerful search, and lets you add drawings made with Apple Pencil.

AnkiMobile is a companion to the computer version rather than a full replacement. Some changes, such as editing note types, need the desktop app, and add-ons are not supported.

The app was written by the lead developer of Anki and has been on the App Store since 2010. It is a one-time purchase of $24.99 in the US store, works on multiple devices with the same Apple ID, and supports Family Sharing in most countries.

### Best for

Students and lifelong learners who already use Anki on a computer and want to review their cards on iPhone or iPad.

### Not for

People who want a stand-alone mobile flashcard app with no computer, and Android users, who can use the separate AnkiDroid app.

## Questions and answers

Why does AnkiMobile cost more than most apps?

Sales of AnkiMobile support development of both the computer and mobile versions of Anki, so it is priced like a computer application. It is a one-time purchase.

Do I need the computer version of Anki?

It is recommended. AnkiMobile is a companion to the computer version; changes such as modifying note types need the desktop app, and add-ons are not supported.

How do I sync my cards?

The free AnkiWeb synchronization service keeps cards and progress in sync across devices. Sync is optional, and you can also transfer data by USB cable or AirDrop.

Can I study offline?

Yes. Images and audio in your cards are stored on the device, so you can study without an internet connection.

Is there an Android version?

AnkiMobile is iOS only. On Android, AnkiDroid is a free app developed by contributors and is compatible with Anki.
