What CARROT Weather does
CARROT Weather is a weather app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Android with a snarky robot personality. Premium Club adds more data sources, notifications, radar maps, widgets, and full layout customization.
CARROT Weather is a weather app that pairs detailed forecasts with a talking robot character. You get current, hourly, and daily forecasts on the main screen, and you can tap anywhere for more data. The forecasts come with jokes, animations, and dialogue from CARROT, an AI character whose tone you choose from five personalities: professional, friendly, snarky, homicidal, or overkill. The professional setting turns off the jokes and leaves a traditional weather app.
By default, forecasts come from Foreca. Premium Club members can switch to other sources such as Apple Weather, AccuWeather, Tomorrow.io, OpenWeather, and Xweather, plus regional services like Environment Canada, Deutscher Wetterdienst, MeteoFrance, MET Norway, and WillyWeather. Data from personal weather stations such as Tempest and Netatmo can also be shown.
The interface is highly customizable. A Layout screen lets you add, rearrange, and restyle components and data points, and a Layout Gallery offers prebuilt designs. Premium also unlocks Home and Lock Screen widgets, weather maps with radar, Apple Watch complications, and notifications for daily summaries, severe weather alerts, precipitation, and lightning where available. There is also a set of extras: secret locations to find, achievements to unlock, and an augmented reality mode.
CARROT Weather is made by Grailr LLC. It is free to download, and a 7-day free trial is available for the Premium Club subscription. There are three levels: Premium, Premium Ultra, and Premium Family, which can be shared with up to five family members. The developer explains that the subscription exists because weather data is expensive.
The app runs on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, with a separate Mac app and an Android version on Google Play. The App Store listing says personal information, including location data, is never sold to third parties.
Best for
People who check the weather often and want detailed data, many data sources, and a customizable layout, with or without humor.
Not for
People who want a free weather app with alerts and widgets included, since most advanced features need a subscription.
