What Photopea does
Photopea is a free image editor that runs in the browser. It opens and saves PSD files, reads many other formats including RAW photos, and does all processing on your own device without uploads.
Photopea is an image editor for raster and vector graphics that works in a web browser. You open photopea.com and start editing, with nothing to install. It handles simple jobs such as cropping and resizing, and complex work such as photo retouching, web page design, and illustration.
The editor runs completely on your device, using your CPU and GPU. Files are not uploaded to the internet, they open instantly, and after the page loads you can disconnect and keep working offline. Photopea runs on desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones, but its documentation recommends a large screen, a mouse or stylus, and a keyboard.
PSD is the main file format, and Photopea can both open and save it. It also opens formats such as PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, SVG, PDF, AI, HEIC, TIFF, Sketch, XCF, and Figma files, as well as RAW camera files like DNG, CR2, CR3, NEF, and ARW. The feature set includes layers, masks, layer styles, smart objects, adjustment layers, channels, paths, levels and curves, filters such as Liquify and Puppet Warp, vector shapes, animation, and video editing. AI tools remove a background with one click or replace part of an image from a text description.
Photopea is free to use with advertisements. A Premium account removes the ads, and a Team Premium account lets one person pay for a group. Logging in also syncs settings such as theme, language, and tool options across devices.
For developers, the Photopea API lets a website embed the editor in an iframe, load files and resources through a URL parameter, run scripts, and save documents back to its own server. The main source code is not open, but a public GitHub repository collects bug reports and feature requests, and a Learn site teaches the editor chapter by chapter.

Not for
