What Plausible Analytics does

Plausible is an open-source web analytics tool that works without cookies. It shows the main traffic stats on one dashboard, uses a small tracking script, and processes data on EU-owned servers.

Plausible Analytics is a web analytics service built as a simpler alternative to Google Analytics. You add a small script to your site, and Plausible shows visitors, pageviews, bounce rate, visit duration, sources, pages, and locations on one dashboard. The dashboard needs no training and has no layers of custom reports to build.

Privacy is the core of the design. Plausible does not use cookies or persistent identifiers and does not track individual users across sites or devices, so the company says no cookie banner is needed. Visitor data is processed on servers owned and operated by European companies and does not leave the EU. The tracking script is much smaller than the Google Analytics script, so it has little effect on page speed.

The feature set covers more than basic traffic counts. Plausible tracks scroll depth, file downloads, outbound link clicks, and form completions automatically, and supports custom events, revenue goals, funnels, and user journeys. It groups UTM campaigns into channels, connects to Google Search Console for search queries, shows which AI tools such as ChatGPT or Perplexity send traffic, and filters out bots. A real-time view updates every 30 seconds. You can import historical Google Analytics data and send email or Slack reports.

Plausible is made by Plausible Insights, a self-funded and bootstrapped team founded by Uku Taht and Marko Saric and running since 2018. The code is on GitHub, and Plausible Community Edition is a free, self-hosted release under the AGPLv3 license. The managed cloud service funds development.

The cloud service is priced by monthly pageviews and starts with a 30-day free trial that needs no credit card. The Starter plan begins at $9 per month for one site, and Growth and Business plans add more sites, team members, shared dashboards, a Stats API, funnels, and longer data retention. Enterprise plans add SSO and raw data exports. Plausible also offers a WordPress plugin, a Google Tag Manager option, and a Data Studio connector.

Best for

Site owners, publishers, SaaS companies, ecommerce shops, and agencies that want clear traffic stats without cookies or consent banners.

Not for

Teams that need detailed per-user tracking, cross-device profiles, or a free hosted plan; they may prefer a full product analytics suite.
